Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech at around 8:00 AM. You’ll head east climbing into the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass the highest road in North Africa. As the road ascends you’ll be treated to ever-changing views of terraced mountain slopes, traditional Berber villages, and dramatic valleys.
The first major stop is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou a stunning fortified ksar (fortified village) made of clay and straw. You’ll have time to walk through its ancient pathways learn about its history, and see where famous films like Gladiator Lawrence of Arabia and The Kingdom of Heaven were shot.
After lunch near Ouarzazate known as the “gateway to the desert” you’ll pass by the Taourirt Kasbah and the Atlas Film Studio. The journey continues along the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” through the Skoura palm grove (home to over 700,000 palm trees) and the Valley of the Roses where damascene roses are harvested for rosewater.
