Day Trip to Essaouira

Day 1: Marrakech – Argan Forest – Essaouira – Marrakech

Your coastal adventure begins with a morning pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, typically around 8:15 AM. The drive takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours through the plains of Haouz and across vast landscapes, with stunning views of the Moroccan countryside.

Along the way, you’ll make stops for refreshments and to see the amazing view of goats climbing Argan trees—a unique Moroccan sight. You’ll also visit a women’s argan oil cooperative to learn about the production process of this precious oil, used in both cosmetics and cooking. This is a great opportunity to support local initiatives and purchase artisanal products.

Upon arrival in Essaouira, you’ll have approximately 4 hours of free time to explore the city at your own pace. Wander through the UNESCO-listed medina, a maze of narrow streets lined with whitewashed walls and blue doors. The medina is filled with artisan shops, lively souks, and local art galleries.

Visit the Skala de la Kasbah, an impressive coastal fortification offering spectacular views of the ocean and the bustling port, where blue boats rest along the quays. Watch talented artisans build wooden boats in the harbour or carve objects from thuja wood, a local specialty.

Enjoy a delicious fresh seafood lunch at a local restaurant (optional), then stroll along the beach or the historic ramparts surrounding the city. Essaouira’s laid-back atmosphere, combined with its rich history and cultural diversity, makes it a perfect coastal escape. In the late afternoon, begin your return journey to Marrakech, arriving in the evening with drop-off at your accommodation.
