3 Days Desert Trip from Marrakech to Merzouga
    Tour Details

Marrakech to Merzouga in 3 days is the most popular desert tour in Morocco—and for good reason. It’s the shortest round trip that still gives you a full night in the Sahara dunes the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, and a walk through the dramatic Todra Gorge without any compromises that would make you wish you’d taken longer.

You’ll cross the High Atlas Mountains ride camels into the golden sands of Erg Chebbi at sunset sleep under a sky bursting with stars and return to Marrakech via a different scenic route. Two days is brutally compressed three days is the sweet spot.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

3 Days Desert Trip from Marrakech to Merzouga

    How is a 3-day tour different from a 2- or 4-day tour?

Three days is the sweet spot for most travellers. A 2-day tour is brutally compressed—a long day each way with barely a night in the dunes. A 4-day tour is better if you want a full desert exploration day in Merzouga, but it adds significantly to the budget.

Three days gets you into the Sahara, gives you one proper camel ride, one sunrise, one sunset, and still gets you back to Marrakech on the third evening. It’s the most popular and best-value option for those based in Marrakech.

How should I pack for this fast-paced tour?

Since you’ll only have one night in the desert and your main luggage stays in the vehicle, pack a small day-bag with overnight essentials. Bring warm layers for the chilly desert night, comfortable trousers for the camel ride, sunscreen, sunglasses, a scarf for sand protection, and a headlamp or phone flashlight. Be prepared for long days in the vehicle—download podcasts or bring a book.

What happens to my luggage during the camel trek?

Your main luggage (suitcases or large backpacks) is loaded into a 4×4 vehicle and transported directly to the desert camp while you ride the camels. You only need to bring a small overnight bag with essentials for the night in the desert. The 4×4 will have your luggage waiting for you when you arrive at the camp.

Is the drive really that long, and what if I get carsick?

Yes—the total distance across the 3 days is approximately 470 km. Day 1 and Day 3 are the longest driving days, with about 7–9 hours on the road each. The Tizi n’Tichka pass has many winding hairpin turns. If you’re prone to motion sickness, tell the operator when booking and consider bringing medication. Private tours can stop more often for breaks if needed.
